First of all, we understand this isn’t about us. It’s about you and your financial future.
We are here to listen—to you and the markets. To us, you’re a person with a story, not an account. First and foremost, we care about preserving and growing your money. We take this personally because what could be more personal than securing your family’s financial future?
Mark Eshman, Co-Founder, Chairman, and Chief Investment Officer
Mark cut his money manager teeth with Drexel Burnham Lambert in L.A. from 1981 to 1990. He then moved from L.A. to Ketchum, Idaho, in 1994 while he was working with Dabney/Resnick/Wagner so that his two young daughters could grow up in a small town. In 1999, because he was interested in the way big firms worked, Mark accepted an opportunity to open a Smith Barney branch in Ketchum. After nearly 10 years there, Mark had his “A ha” moment. He says, “Over the years, I had learned that big firms worked like a manufacturing company with investment bankers at the top developing the 'products,' the stockbrokers in the middle as 'distributors,' and the clients at the bottom; I wanted to create a firm that put the client at the center of the entire enterprise.” And ClearRock was born. “At the heart of what we do at ClearRock,” Mark says, “is listening—to our clients, to our colleagues, to the markets.”
James Everitt, Co-Founder, President, Chief Compliance Officer
James Everitt co-founded ClearRock with Mark Eshman in 2007 because they wanted to build a firm centered on the client. With over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry, James spent 12 years managing the Sun Valley branch of A.G. Edwards and built it into one of the most productive branches in the region before founding ClearRock. Today, James says the most rewarding aspects of this venture are "The success stories—the feedback we hear from our clients really validates our process.” The father of four boys ranging in age from 15-19. James enjoys time outdoors with the family and cherishes the family dinner time together.
Jack Gilligan, CFA Director of Research
Jack started his investment career with Goldman Sachs in Chicago and spent five years on the Equity Sales & Trading desk. “It was a great place to learn the ropes,” Jack says, “and I was there when the tech bubble burst, hitting the industry, and really changed the landscape of how things were done. It was quite an education.” After Goldman Sachs, Jack came to Sun Valley to visit before heading to San Francisco. But fate intervened and he met the woman who would later become his wife. So he did what any smart guy would do in that situation—he stuck around Sun Valley determined to find a way to continue his investment career. As things happen in a small town, it wasn’t long before Jack heard about ClearRock Capital. As Director of Research for ClearRock, Jack understands that his work lays the foundation for the sound investment strategies ClearRock offers clients. He considers it a good day when “I’ve helped give our clients peace of mind.
Renee Faltings, CRPS Senior Investment Advisor
Even after 11 years at the Bend, Oregon, branch of Merrill Lynch and her years with ClearRock Capital, Renee is guided by a bit of advice one of her first mentors gave her, “Don’t confuse brains with a bull market.” Renee, who once owned a fly shop in Sisters, Oregon, says, “It’s a good day when I’ve accomplished positive results for my clients and myself.” To achieve this for her clients, Renee says she is, “committed to keeping it simple. Sure, it’s a complicated business we’re in, but we don’t have to make it overly complicated for our clients.”
Lonnie Dorn, CFP Senior Investment Advisor
For Lonnie, smart investing is personal. “My entire professional career has coalesced around the financial advice business; it’s a passion because clients deserve to have a partner who knows how important it is that their money and wealth work as hard as they do.”
It’s no wonder that Lonnie finds working at ClearRock rewarding. “Everything we do is geared towards our clients’ financial peace of mind. That involves education, communication and ultimately, becoming an expert in you: our client. It’s extremely rewarding when we are able to help our clients realize their financial goals.”
When he’s not taking care of his clients’ finances, Lonnie is navigating the chaos that ensues with three young children running around—including a set of twins. Being a father of three and married to an educator, Lonnie understands the importance of clear communication—a key component of the ClearRock experience. “We work really closely with our clients – we find out who they are and listen to what they want. I enjoy hearing from my clients. I know when they have a child graduating and when there’s a wedding on the horizon. All of these details make a difference.”
Monica Wray, Operations Manager
Working as an Operations Manager at a boutique money management firm may seem a far cry from being a freelance graphic designer, but Monica is a woman of many talents. With a Bachelors degree in Human Resources Management and a business background, Monica says, “The things I do at ClearRock draw on all my previous experiences.” The most rewarding part of Monica’s job at ClearRock? “I enjoy the variety my job offers. Every day is different. I also feel lucky to work with such a great team where we always have interesting dialog around the trading desk.” When Monica isn’t at the office, you might find her hiking, biking, reading, or relaxing on a deck with friends.
